OBITS- Vernon Henschen

Vernon H. Henschen, 86, of Norwood Young America passed away Friday May 3, 2013 at the Waconia Good Samaritan Center in Waconia.
Vernon H. Henschen was born in Benton Township, on June 21, 1926 to Herbert H. Sr. and Pauline (Gennrich) Henschen. Vernon was baptized on June 27, 1926, and cconfirmed in his Christian faith on March 17, 1940, at Zion Lutheran Church and School in rural Cologne by Rev. Herman Amend.
Vernon honorable served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He loved farming and tractor restoration, spending most of his days on the farm. He collected IH and Farmall tractors and they would appear in parades around the area. Vernon enjoyed being around children and would often listen to old time music.
Vernon is survived by his loving family including brother-in-law, Duane Lewis of Hammond, Wis.; sister-in-law, Carol Henschen of Waconia; nephews and nieces, Jonathan and Barb Henschen – Pauline Henschen of Cologne, Rev. Nathan and Rhonda Henschen – Micah and Rebekah Henschen of Aberdeen, SD, Christie Hanson of Wis., Cindy and Mike Gleasen of Welch, Evan and Rosina Lewis of Wis., Alan Anderson of Belle Plaine, Joan and George Theurer of Calif., Larry Zellman of Belle Plaine; and other relatives and friends.
Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Pauline Henschen Sr.; brother, Herbert Henschen Jr.; sisters, Elda (Edwin) Leikam and Lorna Lewis; and nieces, Ruth Anderson and Lois Zellman.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday May 8, at Zion Lutheran Church (14735 CR 153) Benton Township, Cologne with Rev. Eric Zacharias officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Visitation was at the church Wednesday from noon until the time of the service.
Casket bearers were Alan Anderson, Larry Zellman, Mike Gleasen, Cindy Gleasen, Evan Lewis, Rosina Lewis, Christie Hanson, Rick Haler and Wallace Rolf.
