Sister Saturday again proves to be grand showcase for Waconia

Boy, I wish I had a dollar for every time someone said to me this spring, “Aren’t you glad you hosted the Governor’s Fishing Opener last year?” “Yes I am!” was my answer every time!

Our moment in the spotlight last year was so nice to reflect on this year… the team of people that orchestrated our event along with all the businesses that rallied to make Waconia shine still makes me proud that I was a part of it. Not only did we host the Governor’s Fishing Opener last year, but it was simultaneously our eighth annual Sister Saturday. We wondered how this year would compare.

Well, it was fabulous! The wind did it’s best to knock down our fashion show flags, but in spite of that, we had women from coast to coast visiting Waconia to shop, dine, play and stay. I always love learning where people come from to visit our town and this year was no exception. Florida, California, South Dakota, Wisconsin … and so many towns and cities around Waconia were all represented.

Thanks so much to everyone who lives in Waconia and invited your friends and family to join you for a day of fun.

While snapping pictures in Yetzer’s Home Furnishings, I met a gal who has recently moved to Waconia from Bloomington. She loves it here! It’s awesome to talk with new residents as well as those of you who have lived here all of your life and still shop local.

We had 26 businesses that participated in our 9th annual Sister Saturday this year and from what I’ve heard, they had a great day. Thanks so much for supporting your shops!

“So, what’s new?” That’s another question I hear a lot. The phone has been ringing more and people have been visiting the Chamber to talk about business opportunities. Entrepreneurs are looking at the building spaces that we have available and I firmly believe that if you have a business plan in mind, you should not delay!

The city of Waconia as well as the Carver County CDA has some help for people like you. There is some funding as well as business plan help. We are also here to help with ideas and mentor ideas. Our mission is to promote a positive business environment to enhance the quality of life in the community. We are a business membership organization, and support our chamber members. If you would like to do business with chamber members, it’s easy to find them! You can call us at (952) 442-5812 or go to our website, and click on the business or service you need.

One new thing on the horizon is a Farmer’s Market! Yes, you read that right. Every Saturday morning, starting at the end of June, you can find fresh produce and more in the city’s Municipal Lot near the flag pole, which you may always refer to it as the Dueber’s parking lot. Also new in that lot, Unhinged! Pizza. This was formerly known as Pizza Ranch, but with the same great owners, an outrageous buffet and crazy good chicken … you won’t be disappointed.

So, that’s all for now. Super glad for spring and looking forward to the Waconia Criterium on May 27, the Lola’s Lake Waconia Half Marathon on June 8 and renting a pontoon from the InTowne Marina!

Bring on summer!
