Central students selected for Boys, Girls State

Central High School juniors Brandon Fabel, Alyssa Heher and Jenny Oelke were selected to attend Boys State and Girls State. Fabel was chosen by the American Legion to attend the Boys State Program from June 9 to 15, at Southwest Minnesota State University. Heher was selected by the American Legion Auxiliary to attend the Girls State Program from June 9 to 15 at Bethel College in Arden Hills. Oelfke was chosen as the alternate. Boys State and Girls State are week-long experiences where participants learn about Minnesota government at the local, county and state levels by doing. The participants will actually organize and participate in the various levels and branches of government. Highlights of the week include campaigning, elections, inauguration of the Boys/Girls State Governor, debating bills, mock trials and political speakers. (NYA Times staff photo by Adam Gruenewald)
