Watertown-Mayer’s boys’ golf team closed its season last Thursday, May 30, at the Section 5AA meet at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker.
The Royals shot 378 as a team, good for 12th place out of 14 teams. Only the top four teams advanced to the second round, which was played on Monday, June 2, when Litchfield earned the section title and a berth in the state tournament. The other three teams to advance to the second round were Breck, Providence Academy and Delano.
The top 12 golfers not on the four team qualifiers also advance to the second round, but no Royals were among that group. The top Watertown-Mayer golfer in the first round was Josh Lueschen, who carded a 93.
Jacob Menth finished at 94 for the Royals, and Matt Fritzke shot a 95. Dan Dressel finished at 96, Jacob Grotbo shot a 98 and Jacob Wandersee shot a 99.
