With a 4-1 loss to Chaska on May 28, the Waconia baseball team was eliminated from the Section 2AAA tournament at the Chaska Athletic Park.

Although they collected seven hits, the Wildcats were only able to get one run across the plate, while the Chaska Hawks grabbed four runs on six hits.

Chaska led the entire game after posting three runs in the bottom of the third on two hits and a walk. Three more Hawk runs came across in the fifth on another one walk-two hits combination.

Jake Stevenson steps up to the plate on May 28.

Waconia battled for its sole run in the top of the sixth inning. Dan Butz started the inning with a lead off single, followed by a single from Cole Hanson. Jake Stevenson then singled to score Butz, and Josh Lenz hit another single to load the bases. But that was all the offense could muster, as the next three WHS batters flew out, struck out, and flew out to end the inning.

Lenz took the loss on the mound in the final game of his senior season. He pitched 4.1 innings for WHS giving up four earned runs on six hits. He struck out four Hawks and walked three. Stevenson relieved Lenz in the fifth and closed the final 1.2 innings by striking out four.

At the plate, Stevenson was 2-3 with the team’s lone RBI, while senior Mitch Green was 2-3 with a double. Lenz (1-3), Hanson (1-3), and Butz (1-4) picked up the rest of the Wildcats’ hits.

Look for a full season wrap up of the Waconia baseball team in the coming weeks.
