Central track competes at sections

The Central boys’ and girls’ track and field teams competed at the Class 2A section meet at Mankato West on Saturday.
While none of their athletes qualified for the state meet at Hamline University this weekend, Central had several strong performances.
The girls finished tied for 15th place with 25 points, while the boys finished in 23 with three points.
Judy Larson highlighted efforts on the track side as she finished third in the 1600, with a time of 5 minutes, 28.95 seconds.
Sami Jo Brinkmann also just missed qualifying in the shot put where she finished third, throwing it 38 feet, 1.75 inches.
Parry Larson and Nicole Miller recorded a pair of fifth-place finishes for the Raiders as well, Larson in the triple jump, leaping 33-9.5, and Miller in the long jump (15-8).
Also, Lexi Erpenbach took eighth in the long jump (15-1.75) and Abbie Schnable took ninth in the 800 (2:29.46),
Francisco Medina had the standout performance for the boys, finishing sixth in the 1600 (4:50.19).
Alek Bixby also secured 13th in the triple jump (36-10).
Graduating seniors for Central include Cristian Perez, Jordan Stevens, Kyle Lamberton, Jeff Worm, Sam Newbloom and Trevor Groschen for the boys and Erpenbach and Devan Mellgren for the girls.
