Lloyd C. Mellgren, age 84, of Waconia, formerly of Brainerd, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013 at the Auburn Home in Waconia.
Funeral service was held on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Zoar United Church of Christ in Chaska with Rev. Kathy Gibson Christensen officiating; visitation was Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia and one hour prior to the service at church; chapel service was 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening; interment church cemetery.
Lloyd was born on Sept. 14, 1928 in Minneapolis, Minn., the son of Clarence and Dorothy (Edberg) Mellgren.  Lloyd was baptized and confirmed at the West Union Lutheran Church. He was united in marriage with Elenore M. Siegle on Aug. 16, 1950 at the Zoar United Church of Christ of Dahlgren Township, Chaska.
Lloyd enlisted in the United States Air Force on July 10, 1946 at Ft. Snelling, Minn., where he served until his Honorable Discharge on June 17, 1949 at the Scott Air Force Base, IL.  Lloyd was awarded the World War II Victory Medal.
Lloyd dairy farmed in Dahlgren Township and was successful with milk production of his herd. He served on school boards, consistory and church boards. He carpooled school children to the district school and began the first owner/operator of school buses for district 106th North (East Union). He also owned Stockholm Store but returned to the farm in the early 1960s. Lloyd attained a managerial degree and after starting his sons in farming, ran the station store in Nisswa. He also worked as a DHIA supervisor until his retirement.
Lloyd enjoyed hunting and fishing, and greatly loved being up north in the pines. He cherished his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and visits from family and friends. He will be missed.
Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, son Roger Mellgren, brother Wayne Anderson.
Lloyd is survived by his loving wife Elenore; children and spouses Larry and Jan Mellgren of Long Prairie, Gary and Joanne Mellgren of Sharpsburg, Ga., Alan and Shirley Mellgren of Brainerd, Cheryl and Steve Lonning of Ellendale, Bruce and Patty Mellgren of Cologne; daughter-in-law and husband Kathy and Don Heise of Oak Center; grandchildren Gus and Jan Mellgren, Andy and Tracy Mellgren, Julia and Al Kimmen, Joe and Kristen Mellgren, Mark and Jen Mellgren, Elizabeth Mellgren, Lindsey Mellgren, Shannon Mellgren, Jeffrey and Carly Mellgren, Dan and Sandy Mellgren, Mike and Danilee Mellgren, Brian and Trina Mellgren, Becky Mellgren, Matthew Hammers, Amber Hammers, Adam and Sarah Mellgren, Kelly Mellgren, Sarah and Joe Wytaske, David and Shayna Mellgren, Missy and Paul Richards, Nicki and Mitch Schahn, Krystle Lonning, Dane Mellgren, Devan Mellgren; 27 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law Catherine and Charles Sell of St. Cloud, Jean Donahue of Squaw Valley, Calif.; brother and sister-in-law Alvin and Pam Anderson of Salter Path, N.C.; sister-in-law Marlys Siegle of Cologne; sister-in-law and husband Julie and Ron Spale of Grand Forks, N.D.; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Casket Bearers were Lloyd’s grandchildren.
Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
