Lake Waconia Band festival set for June 15

LWBF logoCMYKGet ready for marching band nirvana! The 15th annual Lake Waconia Band Festival will be held on Saturday, June 15. The Festival has been praised as one of the best high school marching band festivals in the state, drawing top bands from around Minnesota with an expected audience of 3,000 for the bands-only parade.
Step-off time is 6 p.m. following a parade route down Main Street to Walnut Street and concluding at the Carver County Fairgrounds. The performance areas are at City Square Park, Main Street — between Olive & Maple Streets (the judging area), and on Walnut at Bayview Elementary School. The awards ceremony will follow the conclusion of the parade at Meuwissen Field behind Bayview Elementary.
Cash awards are given to the top-rated band in each of three divisions along with awards for People’s Choice, Best Color Guard, Best Percussion Section, and Best Wind Section. A partnership award — “The Owat-onia Grand Champion of the Day Award” — shared by the Harry Wegner Band Festival and the Lake Waconia Band Festival, is awarded to the band that participates in both festivals and earns the highest combined point total. Judging is done by Tri-State Judging.
The Lake Waconia Band Festival’s major sponsors are the Waconia Band Boosters, Inc., The Waconia Patriot, and Waconia Dodge. The Festival is funded additionally by three sources — support and donations from local Waconia businesses, private individuals, and the proceeds from the concession stands at City Square Park, Main and Vine Streets, and Bayview Elementary.
This year’s festival will feature bands from Winona Cotter (Class A), Richfield (A), Henry Sibley (A), Saint Francis (A), Sauk Rapids-Rice (AA), Litchfield (AA), Maple Grove (AA), Champlin Park (AA), Owatonna (AAA), 728 Cadets (AAA), Mankato 77 Lancers (AAA), Park Center (AAA) and Waconia (Exhibition).
In 2012, the Mankato 77 Lancers swept the top awards.
