Cords for a Cure
The KleinBank Flutterbuys Relay for Life team is collecting any type of electrical cord to raise money for the Relay for Life. They are collecting Christmas lights, power cords from appliances, or electronics, extension cords, etc. If it has a cord we will take it. We will accept donations of the cords at anytime at the KleinBank in NYA. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society through the NYA Relay for Life.

Zoar Church History
Zoar Moravian Church will celebrate 150 years on Aug. 11. The planning committee is hoping to gather family stories, history, and any meaningful information of relatives who settled in the area.
The church records are primarily about meetings and events (all in German) until the early 1900s. Much of this has been translated, but more details would be greatly appreciated for the celebration. Who were these pioneers, how did they live, what did they do?

Rent A Wrestler
Central wrestler’s are here to help. Rent a Central wrestler(s) to help you out with the biggest or smallest jobs. For a donation, we will send you our very best and the money will help the boys attend camp. Examples of our talents include farm work, painting, lawn mowing, raking, landscaping, moving, event set up and /or clean up. For more information, call Julie Farrell at 612-616-3981.

Cologne Academy
THURSDAY, JUNE 27 – Cologne Academy will hold its annual meeting on Thursday, June, 27 at 6 p.m.  The school is located at 1221 S. Village Parkway, Cologne.

Belle’s Blankets
FRIDAY, JUNE 28 – A Belle’s Blankets at the Mack Shack event will be held on June 28 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Mackenthun’s in Waconia. All proceeds go to purchasing fleece for blankets forChildren’s Hospital. Belle’s Blankets is a non-profit organization named after Isabelle Torgeson, Belle, 4–year–old girl from Waconia. Morning Mischief
SATURDAY, JUNE 29 – Saturday Morning Mischief is a self-guided family activity held at Baylor Park for families who want to get outside and enjoy all the natural world has to offer in a fun and educational way. Supplies and instructions for each activity are provided at the campground office. The program will run from 10 to 11 a.m. The program is free, however visitors must have a valid park pass. The activity on June 29 is a Photo Scavenger Hunt. Use your digital camera to collect photographs of items on a scavenger hunt list.

Campfire Program
SATURDAY, JUNE 29 – A public star gazing program will be held Saturday, June 29, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Onan Observatory. The free event is open to all campers and the public.

Waffle Breakfast
SUNDAY, JUNE 30 – St. Mark Lutheran Church of New Germany will be hosting a Dad’s Belgian waffle breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Mark Lutheran School. This fundraiser will go towards purchasing souvenirs marking the 100th anniversary of the church next year. All are welcome.

C&B Circus
SUNDAY, JUNE 30 – The Carson and Barnes Circus will come to town on Sunday, June 30, at 2 and 5 p.m. at Heritage Pointe Mall in NYA.  It will include elephant, camel and pony rides as well as a free petting zoo, clowns and a special appearance from Katy the pygmy hippo. Orchestra Benefit
SATURDAY, JULY 6 – A benefit concert for the musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra will be held at Sovereign Estate in Waconia. An evening of chamber music with musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra starts at 8 p.m. Suggested donation collected at the door. If you plan to attend the concert, RSVP at rsvp@sovereignestatewine.com with the number attending, or purchase tickets for the dinner package (Al fresco dining in the classic Italian Style with reserved seating in pavilion; 6:30 to 7:45 p.m.; meal price does not include suggested donation). Pet Adoption Day
SATURDAY, JULY 6 – Carver Scott Humane Society volunteers will hold a pet adoption July from noon to 3 p.m. at PETCO in Chaska. PetCo is located off Hwy. 41 and Pioneer Trail. CSHS is without its own building and all pets are housed in foster care. Kittens, cats and dogs, ages 4 months to 10 years will be available. All cats and dogs have been micro ID implanted, vet checked, wormed, had shots updated, checked for friendly temperaments, and age appropriately spayed/neutered. There are adoption fees. WWI Program
WEDNESDAY, JULY 17 – The Carver County Historical Society and Peace Village and Harbor will have a program on July 17 at 10 a.m. on “World War I: What service means?” They will explore the meaning of the home front and learn how life at home changed when men went off to war and what families sacrificed.  The program also discusses why expressing German culture and heritage was criticized. Theater Classes
MONDAY, JULY 8 TO THURSDAY, JULY 11 – Homeward Bound Theatre Company to offer “Beginning Acting” Monday, July 8, through Thursday, July 11, from 10 a.m. to noon at Central Elementary School in Norwood/Young America where fourth– through sixth–graders will learn the how to of theatre.  The adventure of character dynamics, costuming, basic acting, auditioning and more will be shared through authentic theatre games and exercises. Students will perform a small play at the end of the class for family and friends.

Paper Drive
FRIDAY, JULY 12 TO SUNDAY, JULY 21 – Ascension KC will have a paper drive from July 12 to 21. Drop-off times are from 7 a.m. to sunset.

Bowling Tourney
SATURDAY, JULY 27 – Registration is now open for a Bowling tournament and silent auction fundraiser in support of Belle’s Blankets. It will be held at Lano Lane is NYA on July 27 from 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. There is a cost for the four-person team registration.
