Cords for a Cure
The KleinBank Flutterbuys Relay for Life team is collecting any type of electrical cord to raise money for the Relay for Life. They are collecting Christmas lights, power cords from appliances, or electronics, extension cords, etc. If it has a cord we will take it. We will accept donations of the cords at anytime at the KleinBank in NYA. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society through the NYA Relay for Life.
Rent A Wrestler
Central wrestler’s are here to help. Rent a Central wrestler(s) to help you out with the biggest or smallest jobs. For a donation, we will send you our very best and the money will help the boys attend camp. Examples of our talents include farm work, painting, lawn mowing, raking, landscaping, moving, event set up and /or clean up. For more information, call Julie Farrell at 612-616-3981.
FRIDAY, JULY 12 TO SUNDAY, JULY 21 – Ascension KC will have a paper drive from July 12 to 21. Drop-off times are from 7 a.m. to sunset.
WEDNESDAYS UNTIL SEPT. 25 – The Bongards Farmers Market will take place Wednesdays from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. until Sept. 25. It is at the St. John’s UCC Parking Lot at the Bongards church.
All Saints Sales
THURSDAY, JULY 18 TO SATURDAY, JULY 20 – The annual All Saints Garage Sale will take place in Norwood Young America from July 18 to July 20. Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon (Half-Price Day). Lunch will be available.
SUNDAY, JULY 21 – Please come and support your Stiftungsfest Royalty and candidates raise some money for their float improvements by getting your car spiffed up. The car wash will be held on Sunday, July 21, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the NAPA/Home Solutions parking lot. All proceeds will go to Stiftungsfest Royalty activities. Come support your local community representatives. Free will offering.
NYA Legion BBQ
SUNDAY, JULY 21 – The American Legion and Auxiliary will have their annual Chicken BBQ at Legion Park on July 21. Serving begins at 11 a.m. and will continue until 7 p.m. or until the chicken is gone. Please support your local veterans by attending this one and only fund raiser. A full meal will be served to include beans, bread, potato salad, beverage and dessert. Children’s meals will be available. There is a cost.
FRIDAY, JULY 19 AND SATURDAY, JULY 20 – Fifteen bands, two stages, a fiddle workshop, musicians’ jam tent, children’s activities, food and beverages, specialty vendors, free parking and more will come together for RiverSong Music Festival, Friday and Saturday, July 19 and 20, at Masonic West River Park in Hutchinson. Celebrating its fifth year, the two-day all-volunteer run outdoor festival features the best in regional Americana music with a focus on original songwriting in the genres of blues, folk, indie rock, bluegrass, country, jazz and more. SATURDAY, JULY 20 – Singer/songwriter Carey Keavy will present the first Singer/Songwriter Showcase taking place during the annual Rails to Trails festival on the main stage in Watertown, on Saturday, July 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. and featuring local singer/songwriters, Bre Sunshine Lewis, Rob Mahlum, Breonna Bachman, and Watertown natives, Tim Gustafson and Carey Keavy.
SUNDAY, JULY 21 – Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg will hold an outdoor worship service in celebration of Mission Festival Sunday. Please come Sunday, July 21, at 9 a.m. for worship, and stay for hot dogs and root beer floats. Rev. Dave Larson will be the guest speaker.
MONDAY, JULY 22 – A blood drive will be held on Monday, July 22, from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Wilkommen Park Pavillion in NYA. Sponsored by the Young America VFW, there is a goal of 120 pints and donations are desperately needed. To make an appointment, which should be kept, call 467-2088.
Taste of NYA
TUESDAY, JULY 23 – The Taste of NYA event sponsored by the NYA Chamber of Commerce will be July 23 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Wilkommen Park and Pavilion. Tickets are now on sale at Klein Bank – NYA and Cologne, Citizens State Bank and State Bank of Hamburg. There is still a need for prizes for the drawings as well as volunteers for the day of the event.
St. Berndard’s Sale
THURSDAY, JULY 25 TO SATURDAY, JULY 27 – St. Bernard’s Catholic United Financial is sponsoring a rummage sale in St. Bernard’s School in Cologne. Hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on July 25, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 26 and 8 a.m. to noon on July 27 (bag day). If you have sellable items to donate, call 952-466-5567.
FRIDAY, JULY 26 – The Chaska Cubs will host the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Night at the Chaska Athletic Baseball Park on Friday evening, July 26, at 7:30 p.m. when the Cubs host St. Louis Park in town team baseball. Any MIAC school student or alum who wears a shirt or hat from their school will get into the game free. The baseball park is located at 800 West First Street in Chaska. Stiftungsfest hamburgers from Wischnack Meats in NYA and Ruck’s pork patties from Belle Plaine will be served.

5K, Kids Fun Run
SATURDAY, JULY 27 – Registration is now open for the Cologne GLAD DAYS 2013 5K and Kids Fun Run on Saturday, July 27. The 5K fun run/walk is at 8 a.m. with the kids 1/2 mile fun run/walk for ages 10 and under is at 9 a.m. The runs will start and finish at City Park. Strollers and leashed pets welcome. All 5K participants will receive a T-shirt and medals given to the top male and female in each 5K category. Kids % mile participants will receive a free milk shake and the first 50 registered kids will receive a T-shirt. There are entry fees. SATURDAY, JULY 27 – Registration is now open for a Bowling tournament and silent auction fundraiser in support of Belle’s Blankets. National Night Out
TUESDAY, AUG. 6 – NYA will again take part in National Night Out activities on Aug. 6. The West Carver Lion’s will sponsor the event again this year on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at Legion Park, located at 320 Reform St. South, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Attendees can expect to enjoy food, entertainment, and great social camaraderie. The event is open to all NYA citizens, so please come out and enjoy an evening intended to make your community safer.
SATURDAY, AUG. 10 – Registration is now open for the Central Football Booster Golf Tournament. The event will be held at the Glencoe Country Club on Aug. 10 with a 8 a.m. shotgun start with a 18-hole, scramble format. There is a cost per golfer which includes a meal and prize money. In addition there will be door prizes, contests on the course, a skins game and raffle. Rib Fest VIII
SATURDAY, AUG. 17 – Emanuel Lutheran in Hamburg will host Rib Fest VIII on Saturday, Aug. 17, at Hamburg City Park. All-you-can-eat baby back ribs and sides will be served from 3 to 8 p.m. with lemonade and coffee provided. Andy Austin will perform live music from 4 to 8 p.m. Advance tickets can be purchased at Emanuel, Plato C Store, State Bank of Hamburg, Chameleon Salon and King Pin Pub.
