Pearl E. Shanahan, 84, of Glencoe passed away Sunday, July 14, at the Glencoe Regional Health Services in Glencoe.
Pearl E. Shanahan was born on Dec. 30, 1928, in Lafayette the daughter of Delphin and Elvira (Anderson) Isenberg. She was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in the faith on May 3, 1942, at the Lafayette Methodist Church by Rev. Clifford Lindberg. Pearl graduated from the Winthrop High School. On Sept. 9, 1952 Pearl was united in marriage with John J. Shanahan at the St. George Catholic Church in Glencoe by Fr. Robert Bastyr.
Pearl and her husband made their home in Glencoe until 1956 when they moved to Chaska. In 1968 they moved to Norwood Young America and then settled back in Glencoe in 1998. Over the years, Pearl had worked in a hair salon, at Shanny’s Bar, Dairy Queen, Laser Engineering, Flouraware and Young America Corporation, but her true dedication was raising her family. She was a member of the Knights Of Columbus Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Council of Catholic Women. Pearl was a dedicated member of the Ascension Catholic Church in Norwood Young America and the Church Of St. Pius X in Glencoe where she volunteered whenever possible. Pearl was happiest when she could help anyone in need.
Pearl enjoyed garage sales, shopping, embroidery and visiting with family and friends. She especially enjoyed attending the sporting events of her children and grandchildren. Pearl cherished her family.
Pearl is preceded in death by her parents, Delphin and Elvira Isenberg; husband, John Shanahan; four brothers and three sisters.
Pearl is survived by her loving family including children, Kevin Shanahan and special friend Linda Baldwin of Norwood Young America, Katie Shanahan and special friend Tim Norsten of Minnetonka, Tim Shanahan of Carver, Susie Follmer and husband Dan of Brooklyn Park, Pat Shanahan and wife Kathy of Norwood Young America, Mike Shanahan and wife Dawn of Watertown, Kelly Shanahan and wife DeLayne of St. Louis Park; grandchildren, Jessica Erickson and husband Tim, Jennifer Thompson and husband Pete, Casey Shanahan and special friend Aliesha, Amanda Shanahan, Abby Shanahan, Leah Shanahan, Kaylee Follmer, Megan Shanahan, Haley Shanahan, Brandon Shanahan, Tyler Shanahan, Kellen Shanahan; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elaine Stark of Arlington, JoAnne and Don Martens of Le Sueur and Karen and Fred Pioske of Shakopee; sister-in-law, Linda Isenberg of Green Isle; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, July 18, at 11 a.m. at the Church Of St. Pius X in Glencoe with Fr. Anthony Stubeda as celebrant. Interment was in the church cemetery. Visitation was held 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening with an 8 p.m. Parish Prayer Service, all at the church. Visitation will also be Thursday one hour prior to the mass. Pearl’s sons are serving as casket bearers.
