The Watertown Red Devils picked up a 13-3 win over Mayer at Highland Park on Sunday, July 14, in Crow River Valley League action.
Good defense, timely hitting and speed led the Devils to the win. The victory was a team effort, with everyone contributing. Mitch Kelzer led the Red Devils’ offense, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Jared Duske was 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs, and Joe Brandenburg was busy on the basepaths, scoring three runs and stealing two bases.
Danny Blacketter came up big in the seventh inning with a walk off hit, plating the 13th run with a bases-loaded single up the middle.
Duske picked up the win on the mound, scattering eight hits over seven innings.
The Red Devils hope you can support their playoff push. They close the regular season with games Wednesday, July 17, at 7:30 p.m. at Green Isle; Friday, July 19, at home against New Germany at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, July 21, at Glencoe at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, July 22, at home against Carver, with the game resuming in the fourth inning and the Devils ahead, 2-0.
The Red Devils are 10-6 on the season, in third place in the North Division behind Waconia (14-4) and Winsted (13-4). At 17-3, Plato leads the South Division.
