BOARD OF EDUCATION

Regular Meeting

WATERTOWN, MINNESOTA

June 24, 2013

 

I.  The regular meeting of the Watertown-Mayer School Board in the Watertown City Hall on Monday, June 24, 2013 was called to order at 7:00 PM by Chair McCain.  Board members present:  Janikula, Koehler, Jackson, Thompson and McCain.  Absent: Koehler and Hoover.  Administration team members present:  Superintendent Marlette, Guertin, Hittle, Hennen, Pauly and Piersak. Absent:  Haugen.

II. Visitor requests and consideration of agenda.   MMS (Motion made and Seconded by) Burns and Thompson to approve the agenda as amended. Passes 5-0

III. General Business Items

MMS Burns and Thompson to approve the following consent agenda items:  Minutes of the Regular Board Meeting of May 20, 2013 and the Special Board Meeting of June 10, 2013 and June 17, 2013; Personnel consent agenda; business consent agenda – operations update.  Passes 5-0.

IV. Recognitions/Presentations:  The board recognized the BPA members that advanced to Nationals:  Kailey Carrabre, Devyn Giese, Abigail Hatling, Ashley Kelzer, Allison Lague, Allyson Matrella, Aaron Sweeney, Nicholas Tschida, Elizabeth Vouk, and Coached by Brittany Wilkens.  Also recognized was the State Track and Field Participants:  Liz Miller, Hannah Johnson, Nick Hix, Luke Sandquist, Hunter Hulley, Katie Heilman (State Champion in the Triple Jump), Erica Clecker, Tyler Nelson, Dan Raiter, Laura Hertzog, and Coached by Rich Winter and Rod Janikula.  The board recognized Hallie Harding for advancing to State in golf and her coach Tyler Finkelson.

Susie Bjorklund as presented the board with an update on the Hope with Horses Program.

V.  Reports by Guests, Administration and Board

MS Principal Nick Guertin presented the board with information on the MS scheduling; SPED Director Mike Piersak spoke on the READ 180 program and the summer options.

VI. Old Business

A. MMS Burns and Jackson to approve the Watertown-Mayer ISD #111 Middle School Block Schedule Change for 2013-2014 as proposed by Principal Nick Guertin.  Passes 5-0

VII. New Business

A. MMS Thompson and Burns to approve the July 1, 2013-June 30, 2016 Watertown- Mayer ISD #111 Environmental, Health and Safety Program Contract with Steve Musser Environmental Consulting, Inc.  Passes 5-0

B. MMS Thompson and Burns to approve the transfer of our Watertown-Mayer ISD #111 Pupil Transportation Services Agreement with Johnson Bus Company (Neil Johnson), which commenced on July 1, 2011 and continues through June 30, 2016, over to Koch Bus Services, Inc. (Brian Koch) of Waconia, MN for the balance of the existing contract.  Passes 5-0.

C. MMS Janikula and Jackson to approve the Watertown-Mayer ISD #111 2013 Payable 2014 Capital Expenditure Health and Safety Budget as presented by Superintendent Marlette and Finance Manager Lisa Raiter.  Passes 5-0.

D. MMS Janikula and Burns to approve the Watertown-Mayer ISD #111 Revised Financial Budget for 2012-2013 as presented by Superintendent Marlette and Finance Manager Lisa Raiter.  Passes 5-0

E. MMS Thompson and Jackson to approve the Watertown-Mayer ISD #111 Proposed Annual Budget for 2013-2014 as presented by Superintendent Marlette and Finance Manager Lisa Raiter.  Passes 5-0

F. MMS Jackson and Burns to approve Associated Insurance Agents, Inc. for the WM District’s property, liability, auto, crime, inland marine, linebacker, and cyber/data insurance umbrella for the 2013-2014 budget year.  Passes 5-0

G. MMS Burns and Jackson to approve Arthur J. Gallagher Risk Management Services, Inc. bid for the WM District #111 workman’s comp coverage for the 2013-2014 budget year.  Passes 5-0

H. MMS Janikula and Jackson to approve the 2013-2016 Watertown-Mayer ISD #111 contract with Toshiba Business Solutions for its Page Smart Print Management Agreement.  Passes:  5-0

I. MMS Jackson and Thompson to approve the 2013-2014 Watertown-Mayer ISD #111 plan to hire a Performing Arts Center (PAC) Director.  Passes 5-0

J. MMS Janikula and Burns to adjourn from public session and move to a closed session for the purpose of conducting the FY13 Superintendent Evaluation at 9:00 PM.  Passes 5-0.

Meeting re-opened at 10:20 PM

VIII. Discussion of issues or open comments by School Board Directors.

IX. MMS Thompson and Burns to adjourn the meeting at 10:22 PM and was duly passed.
