Orville “Beans” William Bohnen, age 93, of Norwood Young America, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, at The Harbor in Norwood Young America.
Orville “Beans” William Bohnen was born on April 20, 1920, in Plato, Minn. He was the son of William and Minnie (Nelson) Bohnen. Orville was baptized as an infant on May 9, 1920, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on March 25, 1934, by Rev. J. H. Bunge both at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Plato. He received his education in Glencoe, Minn., and was a graduate of the Steven’s Seminary Class of 1938.
On May 24, 1941, Beans was united in marriage to Evelyn Heckmann at Friedens County Line Church in Norwood Young America, Minnesota. Beans and Evelyn made their home in Norwood Young America. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters and one son, Bonnie, Betty Jean, Faye Ann and William “Bill”. Beans and Evelyn shared over 26 years of marriage, until Evelyn passed away on May 26, 1967.
On April 20, 1969, Beans was united in marriage to Anna “Verna” (Kloempken) Hoernemann by Rev. Zenke at Church of Peace in Norwood Young America, Minnesota. They made their home in Norwood Young America. Beans and Anna shared over 40 years of marriage, until Anna passed away on November 27, 2009.
Beans worked for Hank Schneewind’s masonry business and then owned and operated his own drywall taping business. He was a very active member at Church of Peace in Norwood Young America. He was also on the Young America City Council and the Young America Fire Department.
Beans enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking. He loved to help others, which was apparent when he made furniture with his woodworking abilities and donated them to Mary’s Wish. Beans had a great sense of humor and loved to ride his scooter around town as the unofficial town inspector. He cherished the time spent with his friends and family.
Beans passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at The Harbor in Norwood Young America, at the age of 93 years, three months and three days.

Beans is survived by his daughters, Bonnie Ryan of Eden Prairie, Betty Jean Utley of Houston, Faye Ann Petersen and her husband, Gerald, of Surprise, Ariz.; son, Bill Bohnen and his wife, Micci, of Norwood Young America; grandchildren, Jenny Vitali and her husband, Curt, of Tampa, Fla., Bart Ryan and his wife, Tina, of Farmington, Katie Ryan of New York City, Lindsay Ryan and her husband, Tomas Garcia, of Little Canada, Teresa Morse and her husband, Nate, of Mayer, Halie Bohnen of Cologne; great grandchildren, Avery Vitali, Max Vitali, Charlie Ryan, Madison Ryan, Skyler Morse, Austin Morse, Thomas Garcia, Lucas Garcia, Isbella Garcia; Step great grandchild, MacKenzie Violette; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Orville is preceded in death by his parents, William and Minnie Bohnen; first wife, Evelyn Bohnen; second wife, Anna “Verna” Bohnen; son-in-law, Dale Ryan; brothers, Howie Bohnen, Kenny Bohnen.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 27, 2013, 1:00 P.M., at Church of Peace in Norwood Young America, with interment following at Ferguson Cemetery in Norwood Young America. Pastors Carol Jean Heckmann and Bob Haskin officiated the service with organist Sherry Quaas. Congregational hymns were “How Great Thou Art,” “In The Garden,” and “Amazing Grace.”
Casket bearers were Bart Ryan, Steve Ehrenberg, Randy Ehrenberg, Larry Simons, Donny Schrader, and Jim Heckmann.
The family invites everyone to the luncheon at the church immediately following the committal service.
