Local teens to compete at state high school rodeo

The National Junior High Finals Rodeo (NJHFR) was held in Gallup, N.M., June 23-29.
The NJHFR is a week of competition featuring more than 940 contestants from all across the United States, Canada and Australia. Each state/providence sends its top four contestants in each event to the NJHFR. Local competitors included: Kaylee Scheevel, eighth grader from Lester Prairie in Breakaway Roping, Goat Tying, Ribbon Roping and Team Roping; Tyler Scheevel, sixth grader from Lester Prairie in Team Roping; Kiley Dalchow, sixth grader from Mayer in Pole Bending; and Rachel Slathar, sixth grader from Norwood Young America in Barrel Racing.
These local contestants and students from all over the state will be competing in the Minnesota High School Rodeo in Buffalo Aug. 17-18. Saturday’s Rodeo begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5/Adults and $2/Kids 12 and under, available at the gate.
