Geisen named 2013 Carver County Outstanding Senior Citizen

Sharron (Shari) Geisen of Waconia was named as the 2013 Carver County Outstanding Senior Citizen during a special program held at the Carver County Fair on Thursday, Aug. 8. Geisen was nominated by her sister, Pat Rehbein. She will receive a special certificate of commendation from the Governor and her name will be submitted to the Minnesota Board on Aging for the Minnesota state selection process for Outstanding Senior Citizens. The winners of the state-wide award will be announced at the Minnesota State Fair on Senior Day, Aug. 29. Geisen’s contributions to the community include working with the Waconia Community Ed Advisory Board (25 years) and the Waconia Parks and Rec Board (31 years), being a three-time president of the American Legion Auxiliary and spending more than two decades to assist with fundraisers for the Ridgeview Foundation. Geisen is also active at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waconia, plants flowers in the parks, serves as an election judge, holds bingo at Lighthouse of Waconia, and brings meals to community members who have had family deaths or illnesses. Geisen is known for being “a very caring and giving person, willing to help out where ever it is needed.” Here, Geisen stands with Carver County Ag Society President Curtis Wolter at the fair.
