Richard “Rich” Leonard Feltmann and Janis “Jan” Eileen (Pedersen) Feltmann, 61, of Brandon, S.D., and formerly of Norwood Young America, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, in an accident by Brookings, S.D.
Richard “Rich” Leonard Feltmann was born on Dec. 18, 1951, in Glencoe. He was the son of Leonard and Lorraine (Herrmann) Feltmann. Richard was baptized as an infant on Jan. 6, 1952 by Rev. W. P. Kramer, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on April 11, 1965, by Rev. R. Reith both at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America. He received his education in Norwood Young America, attending St. John’s Lutheran School through the eighth grade and then graduated with the Central High School Class of 1969.
Janis “Jan” Eileen (Pedersen) Feltmann was born on July 24, 1952, in Watertown. She was the daughter of Norman and Gladys (Prehn) Pedersen. Janis was baptized as an infant on Aug. 17, 1952, by Rev. M. F. Rische, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on April 3, 1966, by Rev. G. Peske both at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer. She received her education in Mayer and Norwood Young America, and graduated with the Central High School Class of 1970. Jan furthered her education by attending Concordia College in Moorhead, for three years.
On Sept. 2, 1973, Rich and Jan were united in marriage by Rev. H. Fry at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America. Rich and Jan made their home in Norwood Young America until 1998, when they moved to Smithville, Mo., Glencoe and Big Lake, and then in 2003 moved to Brandon, S.D. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Russell and Sean. Rich and Jan would have shared 40 years of marriage in September.
Rich worked for Lester’s Inc. in Lester Prairie, IBT in Kansas City, Mo., Fullerton in Worthington, and Design Tanks in Sioux Falls, S.D.. Jan worked at Stewart Sandwiches, Young America Corporation in Norwood Young America, and Wells Fargo Mortgage in Sioux Falls, S.D. Rich and Jan were members at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America. He was a member and later the chairman of the Norwood Young America School Board. Rich was a coach and Jan was the score keeper for all of the boys baseball teams. They always followed the boys sporting activities through the years.
Rich enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting especially for duck and deer. Jan enjoyed bowling and stamping, especially making cards. She was a selfless person, always putting other people’s needs first. Rich and Jan were always together and they loved to travel. Rich and Jan cherished the time spent with their family and friends.
Richard and Janis passed away on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, in an accident by Brookings, S.D., at the age of 61 years.

Richard and Janis are survived by their sons, Russell Feltmann of Norwood Young America and Sean Feltmann and his fiancée Fallon Wiseman, of Glencoe; granddaughters, Reagan Feltmann and Mena Feltmann; mothers, Lorraine Feltmann of Norwood Young America and Gladys Pedersen of Norwood Young America; aunts, Diann Stoeckmann and her husband Donald, of Rosemount, Myrtle Schuettpelz of Mayer, Lorraine Pedersen of Hutchinson, Ruth Hardel of Brownton, and Shirley Bowen and her husband Robert, of Hutchinson; numerous cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Richard and Janis are preceded in death by their fathers, Leonard Feltmann and Norman Pedersen; maternal grandparents, Michael and Helena Herrmann and Carl and Mathilda Prehn; paternal grandparents, William and Christine Feltmann and Soren and Ellen Pedersen; aunts and uncles, Myra Oelfke and her husband Ray, Bernice Quaas and her husband Otto, Omer Schuettpelz.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 9, at 11 a.m., at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America, with interment following in the church cemetery. Pastor David Winter officiated the service with organist Rita Luecke. Congregational Hymns were “Amazing Grace,” “How Great Thou Art,” “Precious Lord Take My Hand,” and “Lift High The Cross.” Richard’s casket bearers were Bill Braunwarth, Eugene Widmer, Jeff Hedtke, Brad Schrupp, Bill Dietrich and Rodney Boelke and Janis’s casket bearers were Jeremy Quaas, David Berry, Brett Luedke, Russ Smith, David Pedersen and Steve Hardel.
