Della Mae Swanson

Della Mae Swanson, age 88, of Cologne passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013 at the Elim Home in Watertown.
Funeral service held Friday, Aug. 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church (216 5th Street) in Carver with Rev. Jon Niebuhr officiating; visitation held Thursday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia and Friday one hour prior to the service at the church; Interment in the West Union Lutheran Cemetery in Cologne.
Della Mae Swanson was born on Sept. 14, 1924 in Dahlgren Twp., the daughter of Walter and Rose (Ploen) Preiss. She was baptized on Oct. 12, 1924 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carver by Rev. Gamber and confirmed in the faith on April 10, 1938 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carver by Rev. Ostermann. On May 5, 1943 she was united in marriage to Bobbie P. Swanson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carver by Rev. Ostermann. This union of 66 years was blessed with children Michael, Gloria and Charlie.
Della enjoyed gardening, fishing, cooking and baking. She was a member of the Homemakers Club and was known by family and friends for her homemade bread and the Angel Food cake she would prepare for birthdays and the 4th of July. Della enjoyed playing the card game “I’ll Take It.” She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren.
Della will be remembered for her contagious laugh and her outgoing personality. For the past five years Della has been a resident of the Elim Home in Watertown where she shared a wonderful friendship with all the staff and was loved for her “little wave.”
Della is preceded in death by her husband Bobbie Swanson, grandchildren Kyle and Kassandra Swanson, parents Walter and Rose Preiss, and sister-in-law Betty Preiss.
Della is survived by her loving family: children and spouses Michael and Lee Ann Swanson of Norwood Young America, Gloria and John Bekkering of Hutchinson, Charlie and Missy Swanson of Plymouth; grandchildren Molly Swanson, Jeff Swanson, Sarah Swanson, Mitch Swanson, Nick Swanson; step-grandchildren Shane Getten and Wyatt Getten; great-grandchildren Nathan Berens, Brady Swanson and Connor Swanson; step-great grandchildren Cooper, Gray and Carson Getten; brother Walter Preiss of Chaska; sister and brother-in-law Donna and Ronald Riesgraf of Carver; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Casket bearers Darrel Swanson, Dennis Swanson, Bob Riesgraf, Kevin Preiss, Connie Thaemert Laabs, Linette Kirsch.
