Relay surpasses fundraising milestone

If you’re going to spend the entire night outdoors, it’s hard to ask for more beautiful weather than what Mother Nature provided during the 4th annual Relay For Life of Waconia held at the Carver County Fairgrounds in Waconia on Friday, Aug. 16. Perhaps more important, however, was that the Relay again was successful.
According to chairwoman D.J. Teeselink, the Relay generated almost $117,000 to date (donations will be accepted until Aug. 31), meaning that the Waconia event has raised more than $500,000 in only four years. Teeselink described the feat as “exceptional” and offered her gratitude to the steering committee, survivors, caregivers, team captains, teams, volunteers, performers, businesses and everyone else that supported the event.
The 2013 Relay For Life of Waconia featured approximately 400 registered participants, 37 teams and more than 160 cancer survivors and caregivers. Tate Maurer of Waconia was the Honorary Survivor and Aurora Gilliam  of Waconia was the Honorary Caregiver.
