Ethereal, uplifting, whimsical: All these are words that aptly describe the artwork of Chaska artist Michelle Morine, the September Artist of the Month at the Watertown Library.
View her work during regular Watertown Library hours on the Art Walls. Michelle’s work at the library will also be on display during the Sept. 7 Community Picnic and Art in the Park from 9 a.m. through the picnic hours. The picnic/art event combination will also showcase other artists in businesses and storefronts throughout the community on Lewis Street.
Michelle has been interested in coloring, sketching and drawing ever since she was a young child.
“I have been developing my skills and imagination as I grow as an artist.” she said.
Time passed and Michelle grew to be an adult. She decided to join the Air Force. While she was stationed in Germany, Michelle was inspired by the artwork of the masters when visiting the various art museums in Europe.
In 2001, when she was discharged from the Air Force, Michelle noted to herself that now was the time to develop her art. She began with art classes offered by Sara Hanlon and found her voice.
“My latest works are very surreal,” she noted. “This is a direction that has greater depth and personal meaning for me.”
The library is very excited to have Michelle show for the month of September on its Art Walls. For more information on Michelle, please visit her website at michellelmorine.com.
