The Watertown-Mayer girls’ cross country team finished in fifth place out of 15 teams on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at meet hosted by Norwood Young America at Baylor Park. The Watertown-Mayer boys’ team finished in 15th place out of 19 teams.
Senior Liz Miller led all Watertown-Mayer runners with a fourth-place finish out of more than 100 runners with a time of 15:51.8 in the 4,000-meter girls race. Sophomore Lydia Fails also added a 12th-place finish with a time of 16:38. The top finisher on the Watertown-Mayer boys’ team was junior Michael Burns, who finished in 30th place out of more than 130 runners with a time of 18:39.5 in the 5,000-meter race.
Also for the Watertown-Mayer girls’ team, senior Erin Sonderup-Hohenstein finished with a time of 18:37.8. Freshman Kirsten Klitzke finished in 18:55.6, freshman Abby Hules had a time of 19:15.7, freshman Madison Daniels finished in 19:48.9, and senior Kailey Carrabre finished in 20:03.7.
On the boys’ side, junior Jon Vouk had a time of 19:38.1 and senior Ethan Thonn had a time of 20:07.6. Senior Josh Oak finished in 21:43.2, sophomore Wyatt Tatge finished in 22:32.2, freshman Austin Wandersee finished in 22:56.9 and Zack Eliason had a time of 23:15.5.
The girls’ team title belonged to Waconia, which finished with 79 points and was led by individual champion Lexi Willems, who had a time of 15:30.8. Watertown-Mayer had 198 points as a team.
Delano, led by individual champion Adam Armbruster (16:51.5) won the team title with 56 points.
The Royals were also in action Tuesday, Sept. 17, at a meet hosted by Waconia at Crown College. Watertown-Mayer will return to action at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, for a meet hosted by Milaca at Stones Throw Golf Course.
