WMD falls to Orono

The Watertown-Mayer/Delano girls’ swimming and diving team hosted and fell to Orono on Thursday, Sept. 12, in the Royals’ only meet of the week. Orono earned a 105-65 win.

The lone individual event win on the day for the Royals belonged to Jordan Wentzel, who won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:21.64. Wentzel also finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:12.61.

Other individual second-place finishes for WMD included Lauren, York, who was second in the 100-yard freestyle in 58.8 seconds, and Morgan Frank, who was second in both the 500-yard freestyle (5:35.91) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.27).

Kayla Stevens earned third-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.69) and the 100-yard freestyle (59.64). York was third in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.08 seconds, and Klara Koch was third in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:11.84. Thea Clark was third in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:10.13 and Kalley Johnson was third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:16.48.

The Royals took second place in all three relays, In the 200-yard medley relay, Frank, Wentzel, Zoe Anderson and Emily Bobick teamed up to finish in 2:03.98. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, York, Sommer Heikkila, Bobick and Stevens teamed up to finish in 1:49.52, and in the 400-yard freestyle relay, York, Stevens, Frank and Wentzel finished in 3:56.39.

The Royals were also in action Saturday, Sept. 14, for an invitational at Hutchinson, and on Monday, Sept. 16, for a triangular in Waconia. The Royals will return to the pool for a dual at Waconia on Thursday, Sept. 19, and will host their own invitational at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Watertown-Mayer High School.
