Waconia cross country continues to make a name for itself, as the girls brought home two team meet wins last week, while the Wildcat boys also finished in the top 10 at both Norwood Young America (Sept. 10) and Delano (Sept. 12).
At Baylor Park in NYA, the Waconia girls’ team took first of 15 teams at the meet, led by meet-winner Lexi Willems. Alora Rands also medaled during the race, while the junior varsity girls finished second as a team.
For the boys, a ninth place finish of 19 teams demonstrated the new strength of the boys’ program, with medal winners Alex Carrabre and Tony Fulkerson. The junior varsity boys finished third.
The girls again took first at Delano on Sept. 12, led by Willems who finished the race in 15:57. Rands (16:33), Carissa Dock (16:34), and Mikayla Kauma (17:33) all medaled with Willems. Katherine Jensen (18:02), Kortney Luedloff (18:04), and Mica Aslakson (18:14) also competed for WHS.
The Waconia boys were the No. 4 team at Delano, led by Carrabre (18:49), who medaled. Fulkerson (19:08), Josh Rands (19:57), and Zach Hennen (19:58) all finished under the 20 minute mark, while Taylor Kray (20:08), Jacob Tereau (20:14), and Matt Fulkerson (20:16) were just over.
Both junior varsity squads brought home top honors from Delano as well, with some runners’ times keeping even with the varsity Wildcats.
Next week, the Wildcats are at Dassel-Cokato on Tuesday and Buffalo on Thursday.
