September shot clinics
MONDAYS – Carver County Public Health (600 E 4th St, Chaska) will host back-to-school shot clinics for children who do not have health insurance, or whose insurance does not cover shots, every Monday in September from 3 to 5 p.m., by appointment only. Softener salt sale
The Waconia wrestling and baseball teams have kicked off their annual fall water softener salt sale. ISD 110 residents can order salt and have it delivered to their homes on Saturday, Oct. 12. Three types of softener salt are available, including coarse, pellet and iron. All proceeds benefit the WHS Wrestling and Baseball teams. Info: Kelly Wagener at (612) 396-1358.

SEPT. 20-22 – River City Theatre Company presents “Willy Wonka” based on Roald Dahl’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” at 7 p.m. on Sept. 20-21 and 2 p.m. on Sept. 22 at the PAC at Watertown-Mayer High School. Tickets available at the door.
Pet adoption event

SATURDAY, SEPT. 21 – A dinner, silent auction and bake sale benefit for Mark (Bubba) Schmakel will be held at Waconia American Legion Post 150 (233 S. Olive St.) from 2 to 7 p.m. Schmakel was found collapsed outside his semi-truck in Oklahoma in July. He was diagnosed with several infections. He continues to receive treatment in Oklahoma. The goal of the benefit is to raise money to help bring him home and provide additional medical care.
ECFE Safety Fair
SATURDAY, SEPT. 21 – Parents and preschool age children are invited to attend a Family Safety Fair from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Waconia Fire Station. Firefighters, a Carver County Sheriff’s Deputy and Ridgeview Paramedics will be there to provide safety information. Families can ride in the fire engine and tour the fire station and ambulance. McGruff, the Police Dog and Sparky, the Firehouse Dog will greet children. A bounce house, face painting, prizes and snacks will also be available. Sponsored by District 110 ECFE. MONDAY, SEPT. 23 – The League of Women Voters: Eastern Carver County and MEPH (Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, Hopkins), in association with Chanhassen Dinner Theatres, will show the movie “Iron Jawed Angels” at 7 p.m. in Chanhassen Dinner Theatres: Fireside Theatre. Movie focuses on suffragists, women fighting for the right to vote. Informal discussion will be held after the movie in Brindisi’s Pub, adjacent to the theatre. Open to the public.
TUESDAY, SEPT. 24 – The Waconia Commission on Aging will hold a CarFit event from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Public Services garages. CarFit is an interactive and educational program designed to improve older driver safety. Trained volunteers provide information to ensure the safest “fit” for older drivers and their vehicles. Singing Friends rehearsal
TUESDAY, SEPT. 24 – The Singing Friends Chorus, a Central Minnesota singing ensemble, has started rehearsals for the fall concert season. This 32-voice, fun-loving, all-ages SATB community choir, centered in McLeod, Sibley, and Carver counties, performs in many area communities. Early Childhood screen.
FRIDAY, SEPT. 27 – Early Childhood Screening is offered by District 110 staff that checks a child’s overall development and health. Recommended screening age is between the ages of 3 1/2 and 4 years. WEDNESDAYS, OCT. 2-30 – Homeward Bound Theatre Company will offer “Mask Theatre” on Wednesdays, Oct. 2-30 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Bayview Elementary School in Waconia. Students in grades 3-4 will have fun making a mask of their own face. Theatrical masks are physical, they are able to impress others by making things come out of a dream – and allow it to become a reality. Participants will create their own face mask, then use their creation while performing a drama together.
