Royal girls outscore opponents 14-0 in pair of wins, move to .500

Twitter SportsHeading into halftime last week in the Watertown-Mayer girls’ soccer team’s first of two games during the week, the Royals were nursing a 1-0 lead at Mayer Lutheran.

But in the second half, the floodgates opened, and they stayed open. The Royals poured in five goals in the second half to beat Mayer Lutheran 6-0 on Monday, Sept. 16, and then routed Heritage Christian 8-0 on the road on Saturday, Sept. 21.

“Any time you outscore your opponents 14-0 in two games, you can’t help but feel satisfied with the way everything is coming together,” Watertown-Mayer coach Lindsey Rague said.

The Royals got goals from eight different players during the two games. Katie Heilman, Allison Anderson, Claire Killian, Ify Nwankwo, Makayla Bogema, Karen Vanderlinde, Bailey Barden and Miranda Boll all tallied at least one goal for the Royals.

After an 0-4 start to the season, the Royals have now won six of their last eight games and have climbed back to .500 at 6-6 overall.

The Royals were also in action on Tuesday, Sept. 24, against PACT Charter, and they will be back in action when they host Mayer Lutheran at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26. They’ll also play Tuesday, Oct. 1, at home against Rockford at 5 p.m.
