The Watertown-Mayer High School cross country teams were in action twice last week, running at Waconia’s Run of the Lakes meet at Crown College on Tuesday, Sept. 17, and again at the Milaca Mega Meet at Stones Throw Golf Course on Saturday, Sept. 21.
Competing in Class AA at the Milaca meet, Watertown-Mayer finished in ninth place out 16 teams on the girls’ side, led by Liz Miller’s 10th place finish out of more than 125 runners. Miller finished in a time of 15:37 on the 4K course.
Lydia Fails added a 27th place finish for the Royals in a time of 16:22.2, and Kirstin Klitzke was 64th in 17:29.9. Abby Hules finished in a time of 17:47.0, Erin Sonderup-Hohenstein had a time of 18:10.2, Kailey Carrabre finished in 18:43.5 and Madison Daniels had a time of 19:17.1.
On the boys’ side, Mike Burns led the way with a 43rd-place finish in a time of 18:06.1. Jon Vouk had a time of 19:35.2 and Josh Oak finished in 20:34.3 on the 5K course. Austin Wandersee had a time of 21:37.9, Jacob Oak finished in 22:58.2 and Wyatt Tatge had a time of 23:07.3
Earlier in the week at Waconia, Watertown-Mayer finished third out of 10 teams on the girls’ side, and seventh-place on the boys’ side.
Waconia won the girls’ team title with 42 points and Hastings was second at 94. Watertown-Mayer scored 104 points. The Royals were led by Miller’s fourth-place time of 16:20.8.
Fails added a seventh-place time of 16:38.0 for the Royals, and Sonderup-Hohenstein was 32nd in 18:34. Hules’ time of 18:38.7 was good for 34th place, while Klitzke finished 36th in 18:46.4. Daniels had a time of 19:51.7 and Carrabre finished in 20:04.7.
The boys’ title went to Delano with 35 points. Watertown-Mayer’s top finisher was Burns, who took 16th with a time of 18:16.7. Vouk added a 41st-place time of 19:09.9, and Ethan Thonn was right behind in 42nd place with a time of 19:11.3. Wandersee had a time of 21:02.3 and Oak clocked in at 21:12.0.
The Royals return to action Thursday, Sept. 26, at St. John’s Prep.
