Senior Center

TUESDAYS – The Waconia Senior Center is open on Tuesdays from noon to 4 p.m. in the Veterans of Foreign Wars building. Come and socialize.

Waconia AA, Al-Anon

FRIDAYS – The location for the Friday night 8 p.m. AA and Al-Anon meetings will be held at Waconia Moravian Church (209 E. 2nd St.) from May 3-Oct. 31.

Waconia Market

SATURDAYS UNTIL OCT. 25 – The Waconia Farmers Market will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays until Oct. 26. It is held at Municipal Lot #1 in downtown Waconia. Info: farmmarket@terrawaconia.com.

September shot clinics

MONDAYS – Carver County Public Health (600 E 4th St, Chaska) will host back-to-school shot clinics for children who do not have health insurance, or whose insurance does not cover shots, every Monday in September from 3 to 5 p.m., by appointment only. Fee is requested but no one will be denied service if unable to pay. Info, appt: 361-1329.

Softener salt sale
The Waconia wrestling and baseball teams have kicked off their annual fall water softener salt sale. ISD 110 residents can order salt and have it delivered to their homes on Saturday, Oct. 12. Three types of softener salt are available, including coarse, pellet and iron. All proceeds benefit the WHS Wrestling and Baseball teams. Info: Kelly Wagener at (612) 396-1358.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 27 – Early Childhood Screening is offered by District 110 staff that checks a child’s overall development and health. Recommended screening age is from 3 1/2 and 4 years. Screening takes place from 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the Early Childhood Family Center, 520 Industrial Blvd. Info: 442-0613.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 27 – Mackenthun’s Fine Foods and the Waconia Band Boosters are sponsoring a Homecoming Kickoff. Buy a square yard of the Waconia football field for the chance of winning a two-minute shopping spree at Mackenthun’s Fine Foods, a $75 or $50 gift card, or one of seven additional cash prizes. Tickets are available at Mackenthun’s, from band members and at the gate the night of the homecoming football game.

VFW Steak Fry

SATURDAY, SEPT. 28 – The Waconia VFW will hold a steak fry at the clubhouse in Waconia, 125 First St. W., from 5 to 8 p.m. Steak or chicken, baked and cheesy potatoes, cole slaws, dessert.

Art Wander

SEPT. 28-29 – The Art Wander – Edge of the Big Woods event will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Wander in Carver County on a self-guided tour of 19 studios and see the unique work of 30 artists. Info: www.artwander.com.

‘Mask Theatre’

WEDNESDAYS, OCT. 2-30 – Homeward Bound Theatre Company will offer “Mask Theatre” on Wednesdays, Oct. 2-30 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Bayview Elementary School in Waconia. Students in grades 3-4 will have fun making a mask of their own face. Theatrical masks are physical, they are able to impress others by making things come out of a dream – and allow it to become a reality. Participants will create their own face mask, then use their creation while performing a drama together. St. Bernard Chili Feed

SATURDAY, OCT. 5 – St. Bernard Parish (212 Church St. E, Cologne) will hold a Chili Feed and Sheephead Tournament after 4 p.m. Mass. Enjoy live music, chili supper, sheephead tournament (starts at 6 p.m.) and more. Cash raffle tickets available at the door; winners announced from 6 to 9 p.m. (prizes $50-$500).

Country music show

SATURDAY, OCT. 5 – A country music show featuring artist Red Johnson and cowboy poetry reciter Rich Bellert will be held at 7 p.m. at American Legion Post 150 in Waconia. Proceeds to aid replacement of Legion’s Post Flag. Tickets available Sept. 10 at the Legion.

Fall Bazaar

SATURDAY, OCT. 5 – The Holy Trinity Council of Catholic Women in Winsted will host a Fall Bazaar from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity High School in Winsted. Crafts, bake sale, silent auction, food (breakfast: 8:30 a.m.; lunch: 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.), games and more.

Gluten Free event

SATURDAY, OCT. 5 – Mackenthun’s Fine Foods in Waconia will hold a Gluten Free Event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with 15 vendors, samples, sales, information and more.

Waconia FD breakfast

SUNDAY, OCT. 6 – The Waconia Fire Department will hold its annual fall breakfast fundraiser from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Waconia Fire Station. Pancakes, French toast and sausage will be served.

Augsburg Singers

SUNDAY, OCT. 6 – The Augsburg Centennial Singers, under the direction of Al Reesnes, will perform at 4 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 600 Kristi Lane, Watertown. ‘Make a Play’

MONDAYS, OCT. 7-NOV. 4 – Homeward Bound Theatre Company will offer “Make a Play” on Mondays, Oct. 7 through Nov. 4 from 3:05 to 4:35 p.m. at Clearwater Middle School in Waconia where 5th through 8th graders will learn how to adapt stories into plays.  As a group, they will verbally write their own play, create characters, design the set and costumes (drawing from objects that can be found in the home) and perform it for family and friends. LWVECC meeting

TUESDAY, OCT. 8 – The League of Women Voters of Eastern Carver County will hold its monthly meeting. Business at 6 p.m. and program from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Wilder Room at the Chanhassen Library. Guest speaker Julie Strother, Government Relations Associate, Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State, will speak on the current status of voting rights. Open to the public.
