The Mayer-Watertown DandyLions are sponsoring a used book drive Sept. 30 through Oct. 5.
Used children’s and adult books can be dropped off at Watertown Floral Monday through Friday, Sept. 30 through Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., or Saturday, Oct. 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Anyone wishing to have books picked up can call Deb at 955-3079.
Lions International has embarked on a 10-year campaign to increase literacy around the world. The average Minnesota household has 13 books per child. In low income neighborhoods, that can drop as low as one book to 300 children.
Books collected will be distributed in the following manner: 25 percent internationally, 25 percent locally, and 50 percent nationally. Books will be divided and donated to different organizations including Bernies Book Bank in Chicago, Operation Paperback, and the Reading Action Program supported by Lions Clubs International to start a library in Africa.
