Watertown-Mayer Elementary School hosted an event called FRED, or Fathers Reading Every Day, on Thursday, Sept. 26.
The event is designed as a father-son event, designed to promote the importance of fathers being involved in their children’s education, as well as father-children bonds in general.
As part of the event, students and their fathers (and some mothers as well) first enjoyed a hot dog dinner, and then the students spent time playing games in the gym with members of the Watertown-Mayer High School varsity football team. Then, students and their fathers spent time listening to guest readers read aloud, before the students broke off into smaller groups to spend time reading with members of the football team.
Members of the football team were included to show the importance of positive role models for young children.
