Mayer News for Oct. 3

Cathy StifterZion Grandparents Day

Teachers and students of Zion Lutheran School of Mayer will host Grandparents Day on Friday, Oct. 18. The program will begin at 1 p.m. Plan now to attend.

Senior citizens to meet

The senior commission of Mayer is inviting all senior citizens in the Mayer area to attend the monthly pot-luck dinner. The gathering will take place on Monday, Oct. 7, at the Mayer Community Center on Blue Jay Avenue. The meal will be served at 11:30 a.m. The game of Bunco will be played after the meal. If you don’t wish to play bunco you are not obligated to stay. Bring a dish of food to place on the banquet table and bring a friend to share it with. There are no dues to pay. Plan on having a fun time by being with your friends and neighbors.

Firemen’s Open House

The firemen’s open house, which was held last week Saturday, was very well attended. The weather couldn’t have been any better. Thank you to all the helping hands who put on the showings of the many facets of the Fire Department. Also, thanks to everyone who came to see just what these dedicated men do for our town’s people. You can show your appreciation to the fire department by attending the annual firemen’s fish fry in October. I will have more information on the fish fry when I receive it.

Compost Site

The compost site will remain open on Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 9-noon until all the leaves are down. Bring your yard and garden waste at the above times.
