The Watertown-Mayer cross country teams competed at St. John’s Prep on Thursday, Sept. 26, where the girls’ finished in third place and the boys finished in 11th.
St. Cloud Tech won the girls’ team title with 42 points. Maple Lake was second with 74 points and Watertown-Mayer was third with 80. On the boys’ side, Maple Lake won the team title with 55 points.
The Royals had three of the top four finishers in the girls’ race. Senior Liz Miller finished in third place in a time of 16:21, and sophomore Lydia Fails finished in fourth place with a time of 16:23. St. Cloud Tech’s Lauren Steinke, an eighth grader, took first place in 15:24.
Also for the Royals, Kirstin Klitzke finished in 21st place in 17:50. Erin Sonderup-Hohenstein was 29th in 18:17 and Abby Hules was 32nd in 18:25. Kailey Carrabre added a 43rd place finish in 19:03 and Grace Knutson was 79th in 20:35.
Maple Lake’s Scott Jordan won the boys’ race in 18:36. Watertown-Mayer’s top finisher was Jon Vouk, who finished in 21st place in 19:49. Ethan Thonn also took 24th place for the Royals in 19:57.
Austin Wandersee finished 59th for the Royals with a time of 21:22, and Logan VanWatermulen was 62nd in 21:38. Jack Heun was 63rd in 21:44, and Josh Oak finished in 22:10 and Zack Eliason had a time of 22:31.
The Royals will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 5, for a meet in Duluth.
