Country music show to raise funds for Legion flag

Jerry Volkenent, Commander of Waconia American Legion Post 150, invites the residents of Waconia and surrounding communities to a country music show featuring nationally known classic country music artist, Red Johnson, and cowboy poetry reciter, Rich Bellert at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The purpose of this event is to raise funds to replace the current Post Flag, according to Joe Niesen, Past Commander and now current Financial Officer of Post 150. The current Post Flag was purchased in 1919 when Post 150 was chartered, and is in dire need of replacement. Both Volkenent and Niesen have stated the flag is beyond repair and falling apart. They were surprised to learn a new replacement flag would cost nearly $1,000 and money raised from this event will go to funding this project.

Waconia American Legion members appreciate the community’s support in the Legion’s mission to promote Memorial and Veterans Day events in the community, as well as making sure the city of Waconia has American flags on street poles as well American flags in local class rooms.

Tickets for this year’s Country Music Show are $10 each and are available at the American Legion Post (233 Olive St.) in Waconia. To make a donation for the Legion flag replacement, stop by the Legion.
