Heading into the upcoming 2013-14 season, the Waconia Lakettes dance team found itself short on funds for uniforms. The current high kick costumes had reached the end of their useful life and recent format changes to the jazz division left the Lakettes with outdated outfits.

The combined cost of replacing both sets of uniforms proved difficult and costly, so head coach Amy Segner and assistant varsity coach Jenny Peitz appealed to the Waconia Lions in early September.

With the number of students involved in the Lakettes program, the team’s involvement in the community, and the level of school representation the team provides, Waconia Lions Vice President Joe Gifford said the decision was a “no brainer.”

The Lions approved a $7,500 donation to full fund the Lakettes request and recently presented a check to the team on Sept. 17.

Lakettes head dance coach Amy Segner is looking forward to debuting the new uniforms this season.

“We cannot begin to thank the Waconia Lions for their generous donation for this great dance team,” she said. “Very excited to see our varsity team out on the competition floor in the new uniforms.”
