Stanley Stan Bahr,72, of Spearfish, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Stan was born on August 25, 1941 to Elmer and Catherine (Graff) Bahr in Waconia, MN. After graduating from high school in 1958 he signed up for the Army at the age of 17 with special permission from his parents. He served in Korea for part of his enlistment. While in Korea he saw a picture of the new school teacher in his hometown local newspaper and decided he was going to marry her and he did. On July 11, 1964, he married Shirley Mae Heinert at St. Johns Lutheran in Norris, SD. To this union two children were born, Julie and Jerry.
In 1973 they moved to Spearfish where Stan worked for the Ford dealership in Deadwood as the parts manager, AAL (Thrivent Financial for Lutherans) and Juneks and retired at the age of 62. He traveled all over the US with AAL and after retirement, he wintered in Lake Havasu, AZ and stayed with many friends and family in Arizona and Florida.
He is survived by his daughter, Julie (Dan) Preusser; son, Jerry (Jamie) Bahr; grandchildren; Alison, Erica, Jessica and Vanessa, special friend, Evelyn Skow and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, parents, sisters, brother and two nephews.
Visitation will be from 5-7pm, with a prayer service at 7pm on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish.
Funeral services will be at 11:00am, Friday, October 11, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spearfish with Pastor Gene Bauman officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to benefit St. Paul Lutheran Church.
