Another “W” was added to the win-loss record of the Waconia volleyball team last week as the Wildcats swept Dassel-Cokato 3-0 on Oct. 1 in Waconia’s only meet of the week.

Winning the sets 25-19, 25-20, and 25-18 the Wildcats were led by junior Jessica Wolf with 15 kills. Wolf currently leads the team with 167 kills this season, followed by senior Kirsten Wagener (70) and junior Jenna Van De Velde (69). Van De Velde and sophomore Makayla Williams each had nine kills to lead WHS to victory. Senior Roz Holasek served three aces while junior Anna Schmitt had 40 assists.

“Hitters put down the ball well for Anna’s high assist total,” WHS head coach Jim Lee said.

On defense, senior Samantha Paulson totaled 13 digs, while Schmitt and junior Kia Pankey each had eight.

This week, the ‘Cats were set to face Orono on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
“Hoping to continue our good fortunes in the conference,” Lee said.

Before the Orono match, the Wildcats were 6-1 in the Wright County Conference, tied for second with Dassel-Cokato. Delano led the conference at 7-0.

Now 14-5 overall, Waconia will wrap up the regular season next week with the ‘Cats final home match on Monday, Oct. 14 against Belle Plaine. Waconia will close the regular season against New London-Spicer in a make up match from a cancellation in late August.
