Gordon Diethelm

Gordon Joseph Diethelm, age 97, of Victoria, Minn., died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Victoria Catholic Church, 8228 Victoria Drive, Victoria, MN, with Father Robert White presiding. The visitation will be Tuesday, 4 to 8 p.m. at the Bertas Funeral Home, 200 W. 3rd St., Chaska, and also one hour prior to mass at the church. Casketbearers will be Charlie, Doug, Tim, Joe and Jeff Diethelm, Chris Stans, Andrew Herrmann, Brad Larson, Matt Sinnen, Pat Steinberg, and Jon Diethelm. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Gordon was born Aug. 12, 1916 in Victoria to Henry and Marie (Schutrop) Diethelm, one of two children. He was baptized, confirmed and attended the parochial school at St. Victoria Catholic Church. On Jan. 6, 1937, Gordon married Clara Niccum at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Excelsior. They had 18 children. He was a member of St. Victoria Catholic Church, Catholic Aid Society, and New Market Sportsman Club. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Northern and Bolander and also was a 49er. He loved woodworking and playing cards. His wife Clara died in March of 2005.
Gordon was preceded in death by his wife, Clara and parents, Henry and Marie.
Survivors include his 18 children, LaMoine Schmid, Charlie (Norma) Diethelm, Muriel (Gordon) Peters, Lorraine (Howard) Schaber, Audrey Bixby, Doug Diethelm, Eileen (George) Koehnen, Linda (Tom) Trusty, Susan (Jim) OHearn, Kookie (Jon) Schlender, Eddie (Craig) Larson, Tim (Lynn) Diethelm, Kathy Volner, Joe (Sue) Diethelm, Stephanie (Scott) Maas, Jeff (Joyce) Diethelm, Mary Jo (Ted) Sinnen, Brenda (Alan) Herrmann; 45 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren; sister, Loretta Schmidt; sister-in-law, Jane Gregg.
Funeral arrangements were with the Bertas Funeral Home of Chaska, Minn.
