Attendees at Cologne Lions Club Octoberfest fundraiser will get a little New Orleans flavor this year.
The annual Octoberfest fundraiser, with a Mardi Gras theme, will be held at the Cologne Community Center on Saturday, Oct. 26.
Along with good food, the event will feature beverages, fun games, silent and live auctions, drawings for cash prizes, and fun for everyone. Mardi Gras costumes and masks are encouraged.
Organizers Joyce and Herb Lins are excited about this year’s event saying it’s sure to attract everyone.
“We’re really going all out this year to try and make it nice,” said Herb.
Once the Cadillac Dinner and the Grand Dinner, the Lions fundraiser has a rich history with a different theme each year sure to attract guests.
Tickets are available from any member of the Cologne Lions Club.
All proceeds will go to improve the community through the many projects carried out and funded by the Lions, whose motto is “We Serve.”
Herb said the Lions Club group is making plans for its 40th anniversary celebration early in 2014 and are continuing to make a difference and grow.
“For a small town, there is a high percentage of volunteerism,” said Herb. “We just added 10 new members. Considering a lot of the people are new to the area, we’re pretty proud of that.”
Among the efforts are Lions Park, the Lins Peony Garden and Peony project, Benton Lake Garden, Glad Days, Christmas in the Park, city banners and flags, Christmas lighting and others.
“Just imagine if the things the Lions did disappeared,” said Joyce. “The heart and soul of the town would be lost if you didn’t have the Lions activities.”
At this year’s Mardi Gras Octoberfest fundraiser, appetizers will be served from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., with dinner at 7:30 p.m., desserts at 9 p.m. and a coffee bar after the live auction.
