Central cross country girls take third, boys fifth at Watertown

Most of the runners on the Central girls’ and boys’ cross country teams concluded their seasons at the Watertown meet last Tuesday.
Gearing up for the section meet this afternoon in Milaca, the Central girls’ finished third and the boys’ took fifth as Alex Wischnack won the race.
Annandale won the girls’ race with 42 points, Central had 76 and Mayer Lutheran was sixth with 165.
Individually, Judy Larson finished in fifth place in 15 minutes, 51 seconds. Abbie Schnabel took 13th (16:39), Parry Larson got 16th (16:53), Sarah Korman finished 20th (17:25) and April Feist got 22nd (17:27). Also, Addtsen Farrell got 27th (17:56) and Dana Norman took 28th (17:58).
LHS’ Emilie Berry finished in 10th place (16:29), while Karlea Kyllo got 21st (17:27), Clara Leverich got 43rd (20:35) and Grace Dietrich and Mikaila Norman got 45th and 46th, respectively (22:46 and 26:15).
On the boys’ side, Glencoe-Silver Lake took first with 27 team points, while Central had 129 in fifth and Mayer Lutheran was eighth with 189.
Wischnack finished first for Central (17:33), followed by teammates Ben Barth in 19th (18:35), Clay Sauter in 35th (19:35), Luke Peterson in 36th (19:39) and Devan Dvorak in 38th (19:43). Also, Chase Heuer got 40th (19:46) and Josh Hendel got 43rd (20:17).
LHS’ Brandon Duffy got 7th (18:03), Wyatt Entinger got 41st (19:50), Parker Esterberg got 47th (0:33), Ben Quiram got 49th (20:46) and Todd Johnson got 51st (21:10). Drew Jackson also took 54th (22:50).
Central cross country and the Crusaders will compete in the Section 5A meet tonight in Milaca. Duffy hopes to return to the state competition, after narrowly missing the cut in 2012. Berry will look to make her first state appearance. The top two teams, along with the top eight individuals not on those teams, qualify for the Class A state meet on Nov. 2.
Twenty-four teams comprise Section 5A for cross country, which includes many of the teams LHS and Central faced at Watertown.
