Tim Litfin, of Waconia, was recently honored at the 2013 Minnesota State High School Coaches Association annual banquet on Oct. 12. Four Minnesota high school officials were recognized with a “Distinguished Service Award as an Official” plaque, including Litfin, who has served as a referee and umpire for 32 years.
Throughout his years of service, Litfin has recruited 20 new officials. He has officiated 22 section championship games, 26 state tournaments, and over 1,700 varsity football, basketball, and baseball games over the years. Litfin serves on several MSHSL boards and committees and continues to officiate approximately 90 varsity contest per year.
At the youth level, Litfin has helped organize, direct, and instruct officiating clinics to over 1,000 high school aged referees and umpires.
For Litfin, officiating high school sports makes him a better person.
“A high school athletic contest or fine arts event is the best place to be on a Friday night,” he said.”I enjoy the lifelong learning and the relationships with coaches, directors, players, performers, ADs, and fellow officials.”
