Central junior Alex Wischnack not only qualified for the boys state cross country for the second year in a row, he also made some history.
Wischnack placed first at the 5A Section meet in Milaca last Thursday, in a time of 16 minutes, 42.4 seconds. He was the first section of regional champion in Central cross country since Dave Fahey performed the feat in 1982.
Mayer Lutheran’s Brandon Duffy finished eighth (17.15.8) to also qualify for the state meet, set for this upcoming Saturday at Saint Olaf College in Northfield.
Mora High School and Glencoe-Silver Lake both qualified as teams in the boys’ race with 47 and 77 team points, respectively. Central took eighth overall (255) and Mayer Lutheran got 15th (322) in a 24-team field.
Apart from Wischnack, Ben Barth took 39th (18:04.4), Cole Sauter was 60th (18:48), Chase Heuer was 73rd (19:06.7), Devon Dvorak was 82nd (19:29.6). Also, Clay Sauter and Luke Peterson went 89-90 (19:31.7 and 19:34.8).
Rounding out LHS’ counting scores were Alex Mielke in 69th (18:59.7), Wyatt Entinger in 72nd (19:04.9), Parker Esterberg in 99th (19:57.3) and Todd Johnson in 105th (20:26). Also, Andrew Jackson took 123rd (22:44.0).
On the girls’ side, Annandale and Spectrum-Legacy qualified with 53 and 89 points, respectively. Central placed fifth overall (151) and Mayer Lutheran took 17th (427) out of 24 teams.
Central’s Judy Larson finished in 16th (15:50), Parry Larson was 25th (16:21.4), Abbie Schnabel got 27th (16:26.7), April Feist took 34th (16:46.3) and Sarah Korman finished 49th (17:16.5). Also, Addysen Farrell got 64th (17:31.4) and Dana Norman crossed the line in 69th (17:36.1).
For Mayer Lutheran, Emilie Berry took 23rd (16:04), Karlea Kyllo got 62nd (17:30), Clara Leverich took 109th (20:17), Grace Dietrich got 116th (22:00.9) and Mikaila Norman took 117th (26:15.2).
Seniors on Central’s cross country teams include Parry Larson, Morgan Krueger, Luke Kleindl, Alex Kayser, Cole Sauter, Dakota Schneider and Josh Hendel.
