Charities and schools — including St. Joseph Catholic School in Waconia and Cologne Academy — will again rally the state’s collective philanthropic spirit on Thursday, Nov. 14 for the 5th annual Give to the Max Day 2013 through GiveMN.org. With an emphasis on mobile giving and a new incentive structure, organizers are helping donors make their contributions do more during the 24-hour giving marathon. “Give to the Max Day has truly become a tradition for many people across the state and an invaluable resource for thousands of organizations. It’s a fun way to make a huge difference for Minnesota’s nonprofits and schools,” said Dana Nelson, executive director of GiveMN. “It’s so easy for people to participate by donating using a mobile device or scheduling a donation prior to the event. The toughest part is figuring out what organizations to support.” Nonprofits and schools interested in learning more about Give to the Max Day can visit GiveMN.org for details. A full list of incentives is available, including leaderboard, “power hour” and “golden ticket” prizes. Last year, more than 53,000 individual donors logged on to GiveMN.org and gave more than $16.3 million to nearly 4,400 Minnesota nonprofits and schools in 24 hours during Give to the Max Day. St. Joe’s will participate in Give to the Max Day for the first time in 2013. “Please join us by supporting St. Joseph’s Saints in Action Community Outreach Program where our middle school students share their time and talents with groups looking for volunteer support,” said Bruce Richards, principal of St. Joe’s. “Some planned future outreach adventures include working with Feed My Starving Children, participating in the annual March for Life, and visiting residents at local nursing homes,” he continued. “Your donations will help defray the costs associated with travel and treats at the end of the day. Your contributions will teach our students lessons they could never learn in the classroom.” At Cologne Academy, the goal is to raise $6,000 through Give to the Max Day. Cologne Academy will use funds raised to buy more books for its Guided Reading Program, xylophones and glockenspiels for its music department, smartboards for the classrooms, and Chromebooks for the students. • To participate in Give to the Max Day, search for your charity or school at givemn.razoo.com.
