Benefit planned for St. Boni man

Gene Rakow, a carpenter from St. Bonifacius, was injured recently when he accidentally shot himself in the heart while working with a nail gun.
The nail penetrated two chambers of his heart, missing the coronary artery by only two millimeters. Emergency open heart surgery was successful in removing the nail and repairing his heart, however the three to six month recovery will be difficult.
Rakow is the father of seven children and was without health insurance when injured. As he recovers, the family is facing the loss of his income along with mounting medical bills.
To assist the Rakows during this time, family and friends are planning a benefit fundraiser that will be held at Island View Dining in Waconia on Saturday, Nov. 23. The public is welcome to attend.
An optional pasta dinner ($25 for adults, $10 per child) starts at 5 p.m. — please RSVP at (952) 240-5768 if you plan to attend the dinner. The silent auction begins at 6 p.m. and a benefit concert featuring Jason Swensen, formerly of The Boneshakers, starts at 8 p.m. Monetary donations can also be made to the Eugene Rakow Benefit Fund at any area KleinBank.
