Mayer News for 11-14

Mayer Lutheran High School will be presenting their fall musical — A Family Affair — this coming weekend. The mad preparations for a wedding ceremony come to a boil as the bride’s guardian and the groom’s parents come to a comedic clash over the plans. Performances are Friday, Nov. 15, and Saturday, Nov. 16, both at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m.

Seniors enjoy pot luck

12 senior citizens enjoyed getting together at the Mayer Community Center on Monday for their monthly pot luck dinner. A delicious variety of foods was shared by all. Bunco was played after the meal. For our Christmas party, which will be held on Monday, Dec. 2, each member is asked to bring a “white elephant” wrapped gift for the gift exchange.

If you would like to join us for any of our pot luck meals, please remember that you are welcome to attend. There are no dues to pay, no big lunches to serve, just bring a dish of your favorite food to share with everyone. The variety of food always is more than one could prepare by themselves, so why not make one dish for the banquet table?

We hope to see new faces. Welcome to our two new people who gave us a try this month!

Fall Craft Sale

Saturday, Nov. 23, is the date set for the 8th annual Holiday Boutique and Craft Sale. It will be held in the Mayer Community Center on Blue Jay Avenue from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lunch will be served. There will be 25-plus vendors this year. Stop in and browse the many items made by our talented people. Bring friends and family to get a jump start on your Christmas shopping. Give Krista Goedel a call at 952-657-2827 to reserve your spot.

Zion Lutheran School Book Fair

Zion will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair. Please come to support the school through this educational fundraiser. This is a great time to start your Christmas shopping with fun, engaging and affordable books kids wand to read. Children and teachers will have their wish list available during the fair.

Dates and times are Thursday, Nov. 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3-7 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon; and Tuesday, Nov. 19 from 6-9 p.m. Not able to attend? Online ordering will be available. Contact Jenny Maetzold at 952-657-2139 with any questions.

Good question results

About a month ago, I asked the question pertaining to why Mayer is not included in the Watertown-Mayer High School song since it was 32 years ago that Mayer had to consolidate with the Watertown School District. Nobody has come up with an answer for me. I will be glad to print the answer in an upcoming news article.
