New flags now proudly wave in Waconia park

Despite the chilly weather, a good-sized crowd attended a dedication ceremony to celebrate the completion of the flag pole project spearheaded by the Waconia Lions Club at City Square Park in Waconia on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11. Working with the city of Waconia, the Lions donated approximately $8,000 for the installation of five flag poles — each displaying a flag of one of the five military branches — at the park. The flags were purchased and will be maintained by the Waconia VFW. Several local officials, including Lions Club President Darren Rothstein, Mayor Jim Nash, and representatives of the Waconia VFW and American Legion briefly addressed the crowd before veterans of each branch raised their respective flag to the top of the flag pole.
