Audition for ‘A Year with Frog and Toad’

Arnold Lobel’s well-loved characters hop from the page to the stage in Robert and Willie Reale’s Tony-nominated musical “A Year with Frog and Toad.” This whimsical show follows two great friends — the cheerful, popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad — through four, fun-filled seasons.
Waking from hibernation in the spring, Frog and Toad plant gardens, swim, rake leaves, go sledding, and learn life lessons along the way. The two best friends celebrate and rejoice in their differences that make them unique and special. Part vaudeville, part make-believe, all charm, “A Year with Frog and Toad” tells the story of a friendship that endures, weathering all seasons. The jazzy, upbeat score of the show bubbles with melody and wit, making it an inventive, exuberant, and enchanting musical for the whole family.
Chaska Valley Family Theatre will hold auditions for “A Year with Frog and Toad” at Chaska High School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 9-10. Call-backs (by invitation) will be held Dec. 11. Minimum audition age is 8 years. Younger siblings of cast members may be selected after initial casting is set. Candidates will be taught a short musical piece to sing (download at www.cvft.org) followed by reading selections from the script (download at www.cvft.org). A short series of dance steps will then be taught and performed.
Rehearsals will be held Dec. 16 through Feb. 18, 2014 (a few over Christmas holidays) and the show will be performed eight times:  Feb. 28, March 1, 7-8 at 7:30 p.m., March 2, 8-9 at 2 p.m., and  March 6 at 10 a.m.
