Verona A. Edelstein, age 97, of Watertown, passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2013 at the Elim Home in Watertown.
Funeral Service was Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Pauls Lutheran Church (505 Westminister Ave.), Watertown with Rev. Paul Krentz officiating; visitation one hour prior to the service at the church; interment Watertown Public Cemetery.
Verona was born on Oct. 3, 1916 in Watertown, Minn., the daughter of Henry and Christina (Yager) Rommel. She was baptized on Nov. 5, 1916 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Watertown by Rev. G. Sebald and confirmed on April 13, 1930 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Watertown by Rev. K. Rudolph. On Nov. 16, 1937 Verona was united in marriage to Donald Swanson in Oxnard, Calif. Donald died in 1956. On May 11, 1961 Verona was united in marriage to Harold Edelstein in Watertown, Minn.
Verona was a member of the St. Pauls Lutheran Church Ladies Aid for many years. She loved to bake cookies, especially chocolate chip cookies. Verona enjoyed many activities such as playing cards, bingo, and dominos. One of her favorite things to do was going to the cabin in Park Rapids. She spent some time working at the Edelsteins Store in Watertown.
Verona was preceded in death by her husbands; Donald Swanson and Harold Edelstein; father and mother Henry and Christina Rommel; grandson Troy Stender; sisters Margaret Luke and Lorna Robert; brothers Clinton, Harold, Wilton and Gordon Rommel.
Verona is survived by her loving family; children Darlene (Stan) Stender of Watertown, Sandy (Erv) Kowalke of Indio, Calif., Harry (Jane) Edelstein of Sacramento, Calif.; grandchildren Gail (Bob) Gallus, Kathy (Doug) Topp, Gary Stender and special friend Alice, Robin Binman, Ron (Monique) Stern, Rick Stern, Ryan Stern, Julie Edelstein, Lori (Jeff) Bowman, Lynn (Darren) McBride, Toni (John) Ackermann, Chuck (Shari) Kowalke, Kim (John) Bolduc, Keri (Jeff) Williamson; 15 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren.
