WMD’s Wentzel finishes 15th at state in 500-yard freestyle

Watertown-Mayer/Delano swimmer Jordyn Wentzel finished in 15th place last week in the 500-yard freestyle at the Class AA swimming and diving championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

Wentzel, an eighth-grader at Delano, finished with a time of 5:13.93 while swimming in the consolation final on Wednesday, Nov. 20. Her time was good for seventh place in the consolation final and 15th place overall. Eden Prairie senior Kira Zubar finished in first place with a time of 4:54.78.

Wentzel earned the final spot in the consolation finals during her swim in the preliminaries on Tuesday, Nov. 19. She finished in 16th place during the prelims with a time of 5:12.33.

Wentzel, the only Royals swimmer to qualify for state, earned two points for her 15th place finish, That meant the Royals finished in 33rd place as a team. Wayzata finished in first place with 275 points.
