The Waconia Fellowship of Christian Athletes recently packed more than 1,500 meals for malnourished children through Feed My Starving Children.

More than 40 students involved in Waconia Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) volunteered their time at Feed My Starving Children in Chanhassen on Monday, Nov. 18.

Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit Christian organization that is committed to feeding God’s children hungry in body and spirit. To do so, children and adults hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children, and the organization ships these meals to nearly 70 countries around the world. The FCA students spent about one and a half hours packaging 42 boxes totaling 1,512 meals that will be sent to the Philippines.

The effort is one of two yearly service projects completed by FCA students. The other service project involves cleaning gum off of desks and tables at Waconia High School.

During the course of the year, if FCA students participate in 10 FCA meetings — called the Huddle — and at least one of the service projects, they are eligible to receive their varsity FCA letter.

The Huddle meets on Sundays, usually at Waconia High School. The group’s Christmas party will be held at WHS from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8. All high school students are welcome to join them. You can like Waconia FCA on Facebook to get updates of when and where the next Huddles will occur and who will be speaking. There is also a middle school Huddle for seventh and eighth that takes place in Mr. Langer’s classroom at 7 a.m. on Thursdays.
