LHS’ Schmidt signs to USD

Surrounded by parents James and Karen Schmidt, MLHS Activities Director Tim Bierbaum, and volleyball head coach Joelle Grimsley, senior Rachel Schmidt signs her letter of intent to play Division I volleyball at the University of South Dakota.

Mayer Lutheran senior Rachel Schmidt recently signed a letter of intent to play Division I volleyball at the University of South Dakota next fall.

Schmidt is a multi-year All-Conference winner, was a 2013 All-State recipient, and also was named to the All-Tournament Team in the Class A Showcase this season.

A four-year varsity member of the Crusader volleyball team, Schmidt has been a crucial hitter for LHS over the past few seasons, which included a trip to the 2011 state tournament.

She is a member of the National Honor Society and Students Against Destructive Decisions at Mayer Lutheran High School, and the daughter of James and Karen Schmidt of Chaska.

The University of South Dakota located in Vermilion, South Dakota. The Coyotes are a Division I volleyball team that compete in the Summit League with the University of Denver, Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne, Indiana University – Purdue University – Indianapolis, University of Nebraska at Omaha, North Dakota State University, South Dakota State University, and Western Illinois University.
