The Hamburg Lions Club recently honored and awarded cash gifts to three local students for their participation in the Lions-sponsored Write Off and Peace Poster contests.
Central High School freshman Joan Fuhrman was awarded $50 for her Write Off essay on the importance of being a volunteer and how we can work that into our everyday lives. She read her winning entry at the Hamburg Lions Nov. 18 meeting. Her entry has advanced to the Zone level.
Emanuel Lutheran School seventh-grader Felesha Damman won first place in the Peace Poster contest and her poster has advanced to the Zone level as well. She received $50 and an award from the local club.
Emanuel Lutheran sixth-grader Maria Sons won second place and received $25 and an award for her participation.
All Peace Poster entries, which were created by fifth-, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders, are on display at The State Bank of Hamburg.
The three honored students and their parents were guests at the Lions meeting on Nov. 18.
Both of these contests are an annual project supported by Lions International, the world’s largest service club organization, to offer today’s youth an opportunity to promote a strong commitment to community service and to support and provide help throughout the world.
